A Standoff in Selma, Alabama
In March 1965, a 54-mile march from Selma, Alabama to the Capital at Montgomery, Alabama was planned to challenge for voting rights. As the demonstrators entered the city limits of Selma, they were met by resistance led by local police. The incident would later be called, "Bloody Sunday." It would take the marchers three attempts before they were finally able to march through Selma onto the Capital at Montgomery.
